Saturday 31st of January was when it all took place. Tom, one of my friends who is similar in ways to me, decided he wanted to climb a mountain before he leaves the country...So he started researching it, and found a fairly decent mountain in NSW. 3000 feet high, and a 4.5k one way hike to the top. Mount Warning. He ran it over with me and we invited who we could. It only ended up being Me, Tom and another friend Meggit.
So we planned to climb the mountain and watch the sun rise from the top. So we thought we'd leave at 1, and then start climbing. We got lost on the way there, and had to back track like 45 minutes or something stupid, because we couldn't read a sign.
Oh yeah, I got done for speeding on the way there, 136 in a 110. Kudos Michael.
Anyway, we wake up about 12, and get ready.
We ended up getting there at about 3 after all the fuck arounds...
Ready To Hike
We thought it'd take about an hour and a half to the top, but it didn't. It was a pretty tough hike, because the track was pretty much zig zagged all the way up, obviously. But the track just looked like mud and stones and some sleeprs here and there for steps. I loved it, we stopped a fair bit for Tom to catch his breath and have a drink...but ah well. Made us sweat and as we got higher the air got thinner, of course.
There's alot of little anecdotes and funny parts, that no one except who was there would care about, so I'm keeping it short for you all. Anyway, there was a stream that was crossed a fair few times, that has extremely clean, cold water. Tasted it just because.
As we got higher we started to walk through what I swore was fog, but Tom and Meggit were so deadset on it being a cloud. I laughed and kept walking. As we got higer the sun strated to rise faster than we though. So we didn't need any of the torches anymore. Then we got to an awesome viewpoint, that we didn't want to waste time on, we'd get it on the way down, as we were't quite at the top, and the sun was rising.
Anyway, we got to the last stretch, pretty much a rock wall with a chain to help you. And I mean almost a wall, some parts were about 70 degrees...no word of a lie. You really have to see it to believe it. Had a sing that the next part was for 'Experienced walkers only'. We lol'd and started climbing it. Was about 100m or so, probably about 60 metres in height.
Alas, we reached the top. Amazing. There were other people up there and others coming up as well. But just amazing, we were literally above clounds, so the fog wasn't fog at all. There are some things a camera just can't capture. So beautiful.
We saw the sun take it's first peak out behind a cloud and shine. Simply incredible. There weren't any taps up there either :( Hence the mountain water drinking.
